The mission of the ZMNH is to advance our understanding of the brain and to help to insightfully and effectively treat neurological and mental ill-health disorders. ZMNH’s basic research aims at bridging the gap between molecules and mind at many levels utilizing multidisciplinary approaches and new ways of integrating insights from many areas of technical expertise.

The main research interests of the six ZMNH institutes and seven junior research groups and one emeritus research group find expression in numerous publications of the ZMNH scientists and its research reports.
